Gerdau is currently seeking a QC Metallurgist for its Jackson, TN facility.

Basic Function:
The Metallurgist is responsible for providing support in the coordination and evaluation of external customer requirements in accordance with the capacities and capabilities of the production departments (i.e. Steel Making and Rolling), and ancillary service departments (i.e. process and product metallurgy, material handling marketing).
Responsibilities:
Timely and cost-conscious evaluation of customer requirements.
Providing information and/or undertaking physical inspection of finished products (angles/channels etc.) to make decisions on material disposition applied to the customer.
Investigation and evaluation of customer complaints, with the responsibility to formulate and implement corrective action procedures.
Involvement in GBS to the extent that it involves the customer technical needs.
Coordinate and organize customer visits to the plant.
Responsible for the identification, implementation and co-ordination with the Melt Shop, Rolling Mills and other departments of process / product development projects designed to improve product quality and yields as well as reduce processing costs.
Investigate proposed product requirements and determine action plans accordingly.
Aid in development of processes and practices necessary to produce grades of steel to comply with industry, customer, sales and operating requirements.
Aid in development and implementation of timely, effective quality reporting systems.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science - Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science

years of experience working in Quality Control or a combination of Metallurgical engineering experience in QC plus experience in a Melt Shop or Rolling Mill setting.
Strong knowledge of product metallurgy in a steel mill setting.
SAP experience preferred.
Customer contact experience helpful.
Ability to apply problem-solving techniques to a wide range of metallurgical process issues.
Ability to develop and refine new and existing practices from industry or customer specifications by utilizing and enhancing current shop capabilities.
Experience in steel making and casting processes including alloying, refractories, slag and clean steel practices and or rolling is preferred.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001, Six Sigma Processes and or QS9000 / TS16949 quality systems.
Ability to develop and present training and technical presentations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
